Bird Surveys at Clontarf Eco-Path

Background:

Since the spring of 2015, there has been a bird survey conducted at the Silcock Street Park every quarter. The site is characterised by Eucalypt, Casuarina, Melaleuca as well as saltmarsh and mangrove habitats in the wetland areas and provides habitat for many species of birds. The Birders of the South Pine River have helped REF by conducting surveys at the site of the Eco-project at Silcock Street, Clontarf. The surveys have now been running for over 6 years (26 total surveys) with 136 different species of birds observed in the area. The variety of habitats from intertidal flats to Eucalypt forest has demonstrated the value of this site in terms of biodiversity.

Bird List (137 species sighted in 7 years)

You can click on the link below and download a copy of the bird survey including an alphabetical listing of the birds sighted (common names) and when they were sighted (seasonal surveys). Please note the list has now been updated to include the Spring 2021 survey. During spring, four more birds were observed at the site: the Collared Goshawk, the Eastern Yellow Robin, the Australian Brush Turkey and the Rose-crowned Fruit-dove. Our recent summer survey identified new species at the site including the Peaceful Dove, the Varied Triller and the Black Swan.
